In Order To Lose Weight For Good, Make A Lifestyle Change

Many people who find themselves to be overweight often try to find ways to lose weight fast, and often seek an easy way to lose weight. Remember those old Slimfast commercials, where the celebrity told us to drink a shake for breakfast, then one for lunch and follow those up with a sensible meal for dinner? I remember one former football coach who was a pitchman for that product, and he did lose weight. Not long afterward though, the pounds were back on, and I think he is back to his original weight, if not heavier.

The problem with these types of diets or fads, including many of the exercise programs we see on TV, is that they are difficult to stick with in the long run, because they are drastic changes. Furthermore, these are just temporary fixes rather than real change. The fact of the matter is that losing weight, and then keeping it off, requires a lifestyle change.

So what do we mean by a lifestyle change? A lifestyle change is a change that you desire to make permanent. A lifestyle change is usually made for the purpose of health improvement. Some lifestyle changes are easier than others to maintain over the long haul. Quitting smoking is an example of a lifestyle change that proves to be difficult to maintain for many people in the long run. Avoiding alcohol consumption is another example that is difficult to maintain for an alcoholic.

Some lifestyle changes can prove to be easier to maintain permanently. Adding a walk around the block to your daily routine is an example of an easier change.

When you are trying to lose weight in order to become healthier, and you desire to maintain that better level of health, it is a good idea to start small. Many people get the idea in their head that they want to get in better shape, so they join a gym thinking that they will go workout three or four days each week. This may last a month or two, and then they fall off the wagon, let the gym membership expire, and go back to their old ways.

With this in mind, it is best to start small. Sure, go ahead and get that gym membership, or order those P90X videos, but don’t plan on that sort of thing becoming a permanent part of your life just yet. Instead, start with a small change, such as simply getting up earlier enough in the morning to give yourself time to work out. Don’t get up an hour early and start working out every morning. This will last a couple weeks, but likely will not last more than that. If you do happen to have the energy one morning when you do wake up earlier, by all means, work out. But, don’t feel like you need to train like an Olympic athlete when you do.

Combine that early rise in the morning with a 30 minute walk at lunch time and shunning at least one item of food or beverage that you typically consume each day that you know contains empty calories. This may be a soda, a donut, a cupcake, or a bag of chips. Just eliminate one, and replace it with a healthier alternative.

These may seem like small changes, but they will actually add up quite a bit in the long run! Now you have gotten yourself on the right path. This will translate into some modest weight loss, so from there, after a month or so, slowly add some more physical activity into your schedule, and try to eliminate and replace one of those lousy food choices with something more healthy.

These are the types of changes that have a better chance of becoming permanent. If you want to lose weight for good, be sure you keep things simple and small at the beginning and you will have a greater opportunity for success in the long run!

Real Relaxation Techniques

In this high-tech age, life is stressful. You have to deal with health problems, money problems, work problems, family problems, and relationship problems, among others. Not only you may not know how to confront these problems, but also you may not have the time to deal with them. As a result, you feel stressed and distressed. Time stress has become a phenomenon of contemporary living. But to cope with stress, first and foremost, you need to find time to relax yourself. More importantly, you need to develop a strategy for real relaxation techniques.

First of all, relaxation is holistic, which means it involves relaxation of the body, the mind, and the spirit. You must find time to practice real relaxation techniques, such as taking a meaningful break from your daily routine. Meditation, jogging, going fishing, and taking a vacation are examples of relaxation techniques. But in order to relax, you must find time to relax, so time is of essence. Time stress is a major stress factor in everyday life that is detrimental to both physical and mental health. In order to relax, you must overcome time stress. Truly, we all have deadlines to meet in almost every aspect of our lives. Given that everybody has only twenty-four hours a day, it is unthinkable that you need more time to get your work done than everyone else. Do you “really” have more work that needs to be done than others? Just think about that! Time is all in your mind — a result of your own thinking. So, do not let the constrains of your life mold your time; instead, change your perception of time.

One of the ways to overcome time stress is doing nothing. Deliberate non-doing gives you a sense of inner calmness that may let you re-consider the importance of doing only what are the most important things in your life, and to see in perspective why they are most important to you. Only when you start doing only the most important things to you, then you will begin to have enough time for everything else. This may sound stranger than fiction, but this is the truth to overcome time stress and to let you have time for real relaxation techniques, such as meditation and yoga.

After you have found time for yourself to relax, you must have the right attitude or mindset for relaxation, such as looking at things around you in perspective; Plato, the famous Greek philosopher, once said: “Nothing in the affairs of men is worthy of great anxiety.” Meditate to become more aware of your body is mental relaxation to avoid anxiety. In meditation, you focus your mind on something insignificant or irrelevant, such as your breathing, so as to keep your mind remain at the present moment, even though just for only a short spell, without thinking of the past or the future. In that way, the mind becomes fully relaxed.

Design a morning relaxation routine to cope with stress. For optimum heart health, make a smooth transition from sleep to wakefulness. Research studies have indicated that heart attacks occur mostly in the morning because of the dramatic change from sleep to wakefulness (especially morning rush). To keep yourself healthier and more relaxed, follow the Tao way of waking up: Using your fingertips, massage your ears, eyes, lips, and nose, and lips. Gently tap your scalp with your hands. With a continual stroking action, massage your shoulders, elbows, hands, chest, abdomen, knees and feet. With your palms, massage your lower back. Vigorously inhale through your nose, and exhale through your mouth several times to rid your body of toxins. Then get out of bed.

If you have time, perform some yoga postures or simple stretch exercises. Throughout the day, whenever you can tear yourself from work or daily chores, practice eye-palming exercise. This unique eye-relaxation exercise uses your healing hands to direct energy to your eyes, as well as to rest your optic nerve and relax your entire nervous system, thereby instrumental in relaxing the body and the spirit as well to cope with stress.

To practice eye-palming exercise, sit comfortably with your elbows resting on a desk or a table in front of you. Rub your palms together to generate some warmth. Then place your warm palms over your eyes, without touching them, while resting them on the boney ridge surrounding your eyes with the heels of your hands on your cheekbones. Your eyes should be gently closed. Now, relax your mind, and breathe deeply through your nose, not your mouth. The slower your breathing is, the more relaxed your mind becomes. You can feel your abdomen and back expand and contract as you inhale and exhale, respectively. It is important to visualize complete darkness to relax your mind. Feel your neck and shoulders expand and contract as your deep and slow breathing continues. Eye-palming exercise is one of the real relaxation techniques, and you can practice it whenever you have 10 minutes or so.

Cosmetic Surgery Helping Women

September 28, 2011 by

Cosmetic and plastic surgeries such as breast augmentation and tummy tucks are often done on those who want to look more beautiful. However, there are also some situations where you might find that someone has had a breast augmentation surgery because of a medical condition or a tummy tuck because of a psychological incident that has troubled them their whole lives. Understanding the reason for having a tummy tuck or a breast augmentation surgery might help you better understand that they are not just cosmetic surgeries, but surgeries that actually improve their appearance which will give them more confidence.

There are some medical conditions where cosmetic surgery is necessary to improve your appearance. Though it is still just “that cosmetic there” is no reason for a mother to go through the rest of her life with bosom that has been adversely affected by a pregnancy. For this reason, this sort of cosmetic surgery is absolutely justifiable for that woman.

If a woman has struggled all of her life with an eating disorder or unhealthy eating habits, she might find that she has gotten to a place where dieting and exercising are simply not enough. Having a cosmetic surgery to eliminate fat in her stomach is not exactly something that she needs to function in her life, but they are things that will help her feel better about herself. Being obese is not always something that can be easily escaped. Tummy tucks are necessary for the person who has had a significant weight loss. The excess skin around the tummy can be eliminated which will certainly give a person a boost in self-confidence. This being the case, it can be traumatic and depressing for a woman who is already there. With this kind of cosmetic procedure, a woman can get back into a manageable weight that she can better work with to help live a healthier life style.

One final thing that could be a reason for this sort of cosmetic surgery is that a woman has been in an accident has her bosom has been damaged to where it is disfigured. Again, just because that woman was in an accident doesn’t mean that she has to live her life like that. This is why a cosmetic surgery that can help her is not something to look down on. Cosmetic surgeries are not just for those who want to look more beautiful and voluptuous, but also for those who actually need the procedures.

There are many reasons why a woman might get onto the operating table. Though there is no way to understand what all of these reasons might be, if you can understand some of the common reasons why a woman would have to go into a surgery like this, you might better understand that it is not just a cosmetic thing, it is also something that can help build confidence and restore hope and beauty to women who might have no other options. It is not just cosmetic, but physiological.

Cause Of Hair Loss – A Comprehensive 13 Point Checklist

September 28, 2011 by

There may not be a single cause of hair loss in many cases but rather a number of factors may contribute to thinning or losing hair.

The following 13 point checklist will help you identify which causes of hair loss may apply in your case. But first a word about hair growth cycles.

Hair Growth Cycles

Hair is constantly going through cycles of growth, resting, shedding. When hairs that are lost are not replaced, or when more hair follicles go into the resting phase, hair loss becomes noticeable.

While there is ongoing debate regarding causes of hair loss, the list below shows many of the common contributing factors:

#1: Ageing

The period for hair loss is between the 20 and 50 years of age. Some individuals arrive at the advance stages of hair loss sooner than others although it becomes increasingly evident as people advance in age.

#2: Cosmetic Chemicals

This can be an unrecognized cause of hair loss, especially bleaching, permanents, and coloring products.

#3: Drugs/Medications/Radiation

This cause of hair loss can include anticoagulants, antidepressants, contraceptive pills, amphetamines, some arthritis medications, some antibiotics, some blood thinners, medicines for gout, drugs derived from vitamin-A, certain drugs for ulcers, beta blocker drugs for high blood pressure.

Cancer treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy halt the growth phase of hair follicles which results in a sudden hair loss as those follicles all shed their hair at about the same time.

#4: Heredity

Androgenetic alopecia is the term used to describe a genetic predisposition in men and women for pattern baldness or pattern hair loss. Although there is a dominant tendency for male pattern baldness, female members of a family can be transmitters as well.

#5: Hormonal Imbalance

If the male and female hormones, androgens and estrogens, are out of balance, hair loss may result. Also an overactive or underactive thyroid gland can contribute to hair loss.

#6: Illness and Severe Infections

These can include scalp fungal infections, Thyroid disorders, Hyperthyroidism, Hypothyroidism, Diabetes, Lupus.

#7: Immune System Disorder

Alopecia areata is an immune system disorder which causes hair follicles to stop producing hairs. Advanced forms of the disorder are identified by the terms alopecia totalis when all head hair disappears, and alopecia universalis which results in all body hair disappearing.

#8: Menopause

This can be a main cause of hair loss in women. Due to hormonal changes after menopause, some women find their hair begins to thin.

There are a variety of treatments available involving hormone replacement therapy (HRT). There may be side effects in some cases and experimentation may be necessary under the guidance of a physician.

#9: Poor Blood Circulation

Poor blood flow to the scalp, insufficient nutrients in the blood, or poor drainage of waste products through the lymphatic systems can all contribute to hair loss.

#10: Pregnancy

Three to six months after delivering a child, many women notice a degree of hair loss as the hair goes into a resting phase because of the physiological impact of the pregnancy on the body.

#11: Pulling

Traction Alopecia is the term used to describe loss of hair from constant pulling, as with tightly braided hair styles such as pony tails.

Also the improper use of curling tongs or rollers can tug the hair so it weakens.

#12: Sebum Buildup

A basic cause of hair loss is sebum buildup in the follicles which attacks the hair bulb, the rounded area at the end of a hair strand which is rooted in the follicle. Sebum causes the hair bulb to shrink so the hair is not as well rooted.

After the hair falls out the new hair strand growing in that follicle is weaker and thinner and the process is repeated until the hair follicle is so damaged it dies. (Sebum is a fatty substance secreted from the sebaceous glands most of which open into hair follicles.) There are some hair loss shampoos that remove the sebum.

#13: Stress and Nervous Disorders

Telogen Effluvium is the term used for a slowing down of new hair growth because of sudden or severe stress. The stress triggers a large number of hair follicles to enter the resting stage, so a few months after the stressful event, those follicles shed hair at about the same time.

Don’t hesitate to get professional advice from a medical practitioner if the reason for hair loss is beyond your direct control. Early action can save much anxiety later! From the list above you may be able to identify the main cause of hair loss in your case.

The Simple Ways to Be Healthy

We all understand that, in order to really be healthful, nutritious and balanced diets are important as are good amounts of exercise. Unfortunately, we do not always have the time or the power that this type of lifestyle demands. Working out at the gym isn’t something people want to do when they get off from work. We want a tasty, greasy burger, not an equally tasty salad (unless we’re vegetarians). You will be delighted to discover that achieving good health doesn’t have to be hard. If you keep going with it, you’ll get all of the required nutrients and exercise. Here are some basic ways to get healthful.

When you go to the grocery store, be smart about it. If you make smart choices when you are buying your groceries, you will be eating better meals by default. Think for a second: you don’t want to go to a stressful grocery store or sit in a lengthy line at the drive thru at the end of your day. You want to get home quickly and have something great. Fill your cupboards with healthy foods. This makes it effortless to have a great meal–even if you want something junky–because you’ll be eating something that is naturally better for you than anything you’d buy in a hurry at the store or in the fast food joint.

Run the stairs. Walk up the stairs to where you live or work as an alternative to using the elevator. While this will be difficult to do if you live on or if your job is on a seriously high level floor in a skyscraper, taking the stairs to a home or office on, say, the fifth floor is entirely do-able. If you do work on a very high floor, why not get off the elevator a couple of floors earlier and walk the rest of the way? Lots of people choose the easy elevator ride instead of making an effort on the stairs. Even just a sole flight of stairs, when walked up or down a few times a day–can be a great improvement to your system.

Water is the best drinks out there. Sipping a soda or cup of coffee once in awhile won’t hurt you too badly. It is definitely, however, a bad idea to only drink soda or coffee. When you decide on water more than other beverages you are helping your body remain very healthy and hydrated. Doing this helps you cut hundreds of calories out of your diet without your having to suffer through a bunch of gross diet food. Successful weight loss efforts often depend entirely on water ingestion.

There are plenty of things you can go after to become healthy. Not all of them require fancy gym memberships or restricted diets. You can do tiny things every day to improve upon your health and lose weight. Being intelligent about the decisions you make each day is a start. A suitable amount of physical activity each day is also important. Don’t ignore that health isn’t only about simply how much you weigh. You need to help make your body as strong it can be.

Do Quick Weight Loss Diets Really Work?

There are times when we need to lose a few inches off the waistline or the chubby cheeks and quick weight loss diets are the answer. They may not be good for long term weight loss but are effective for the short term. It is wise though to visit a doctor or a nutritionist to get a good quick weight loss guide as some of these quick weight loss diets fixes may not address some health aspects but a professional is sure to give you a diet that will not harm you.

There are many quick weight loss diets but the most popular are those that involve the taking in of foods rich in vitamins and low on fat and carbohydrates. Since the duration of them are short most of the diets do not concentrate so much on a balanced diets but an effective one. Some of the most popular diets that you can try at home are based on a fruit and water diet while others concentrate with the intake of vegetables. Another popular diet recommends eating white meats only and avoiding salt while yet another has nuts, fruits and boiled food and is easy to follow.

During some quick weight loss diets that are tried at home, some people make the mistake of starving themselves during the day and then hording food at night. The body needs food during the day so that it can provide energy and strength to the different organs while at night our metabolism system slows down and turns food into stored fat. During a diet, it would be better to eat more during the day and have a light snack at night. Another mistake is setting unrealistic weight loss goals and these can really put you off if you do not achieve them. We all burn fat at different rates and these are influenced by many factors, others beyond our control so be realistic and if need be then involve an exercise program in your diet program.

It is a well known fact that a fast weight loss diet can take a heavy toll on the body and carrying it out at home is the best option. As we noted earlier you need to prepare and buy your supplies before hand and it would definitely be ridiculous to tag them along to your workplace or school so that you do not skip a meal during diet. During fast weight loss diets at home, you will be able to prepare you meals in comfort, at your own pace and eat slowly and relish every bite. Another advantage of dieting at home is that you can buy and store your supply in plenty as compared to a public place where you would have to carry it in small amounts.

In a public place you would also find it hard to have a natural weight loss diet due to the bulk and inconvenience and you would inevitably have to rely on artificial quick weight loss diets which would not be as healthy as the home diets. Quick weight loss diets also require that one have proper rest and this is possible if being carried out at home unlike the case if the diets are being taken by a busy person who spends most of her time in public places. Some quick weight loss diets can also be flexible and offer more privacy and this will enable one to relax and the effects felt faster.

With all of this choice it might put an individual off from starting an eating plan, and then there are those, who have had years of diets and have simply not found one which they will adhere too. Whether or not this is because its too confusing, has cost a lot of income, they haven’t yet seen great results or perhaps that they endured some side effects of it. Nevertheless there is a relatively new diet system available on the market that is demonstrating to be very well liked due to its lasting and positive results it’s been getting, and its usability.

The diet plan states that it can aid a person to shed around 1lb each day for the duration of the program.

The is actually an easy plan to carry out, the drops need to be taken at each meal time and placed under the tongue, only a couple of drops are required. Then, this enters your body’s bloodstream quickly and tricks your body as well as brain into burning off all of the stored body fat and then utilising this as fuel for the person for them to start their day. Because it performs this the individual does not feel like they’re hungry, while they are simply consuming 500 calories every day. To start with the slimmer must have a short time where they’re going to take in high caloric foods to get started on the procedure off, after that it goes into another stage where they decrease to 500 calories, this can be followed for as long as the individual wants too, even though is normally encouraged to last no longer than a month or two. And finally will be the final stage of maintenance, where the drops are no longer used, the person actually starts to increase their calorie intake to the amount they ought to be eating depending on their weight as well as height.

Weight Loss Tips

Spreading out meals into smaller portions as opposed to eating enormous meals at any one time is a major factor in losing weight. It’s been proven that rationing your meals not only reduces your caloric intake throughout the day but it also helps to steady your metabolism. If you’re in the habit of eating 2-3 massive meals daily, consider eating 6-7 smaller meals which are spread out throughout your day.

One thing people enjoy doing is eating right from the packet as opposed to taking out what they need and putting the packet away. Such an example is eating out of a mega-sized packet of potato chips. Not only do you have no idea how much you are consuming, but typically you’re satisfying a craving by eating more than you really need until you are completely satisfied when instead you could pour a small portion into a bowl and add a piece of fruit to get the amount of food you actually need. Super-sized packets are more commonplace now than before. More items are sold in bulk and more foods are served at restaurants with the option to super-size for a few extra cents. Increased portions are a factor in the rising statistics for obesity. There is always a cause but people put enjoyment ahead of anything else which naturally leads to a health risk. This is why rationing meals are a handy way to take control of your bad habits. It takes discipline to make adjustments and there’s really no reason why people must feel they should eat until they’re full. As always, tiny servings are fine and if still peckish, add a tiny bit more as opposed to loading your plate and trying to finish it all. Rather than sit around feeling stuffed and undoing your belt buckle, leaving some room so that you can have another small meal a few hours later while still feeling good enough to mix in a little bit of exercise is a good balance which leads to improved results.

Doing this helps control the weight and slowly it begins to come down which is a marvellous feeling when you experience it, motivating you to work a little harder as you become confident in your ability to take control of your own body as opposed to allowing your cravings to take control for you.

You can always take control of your eating habits by thinking and consuming in moderation. Anything excessive in life is detrimental for you and your health.

All you need to know about what to do and not to do to lose the pounds/kilos. A priceless must-have for those struggling to lose weight.
